About Our Organization
Learn about our mission, vision, and the journey of Kawama Widows and Orphans Project since 2007
Our Story
Founded in 2007 and registered under the Society Act cap 112, Kawama Widows and Orphans Project is a community-based organization based in Kawama Community in Ndola, Zambia. We were formed to respond to the needs of widows, orphans, vulnerable children, and the marginalized in our society.
Over the years, we have grown from a small community initiative to a well-established organization with seven dedicated staff members and 120 community-based volunteers. Our work has impacted thousands of lives through various programs focused on education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and advocacy.
Our Achievements
With funding from various partners including Zambia Social Investment Fund (ZAMSIF), STEPS OVC, Coin's Foundation, and Built IT International, we have built a Community School comprising two three-by-two classroom blocks with offices in Kawama and a community library.
Over the last 15 years, the school has provided quality education to a total of 3,500 orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC) from grades one to seven. The Community School also acts as a center for community activities used by various groups of women clubs and faith-based organizations.
